I probably don’t fit the mold of most home designers on the Internet or social media. 

I won’t be giving any design advice, and I won’t shame you for the choices you make. I hate it when our homes are labelled cheap or ugly; they deserve so much more grace than that. I’m done chasing trends and the idea of “good taste,” which is really just made up social concept designed to maintain an elite class by keeping style out of reach for most people. As soon as we buy the latest trend, the elites declare it “outdated” and change the rules, setting a new luxury standard we cannot afford. It’s an exhausting cycle and a rigged game we cannot win. Sociologists have studied this as a form of actual social violence; and it causes real harm to our wellbeing.

And I genuinely do not want to be one of the people who participates in that cruelty; I just want to share the everyday beauty of a space that’s actually lived in and loved.

As for my own style, I’ve become obsessed with the messy, lived-in layers of traditional English design and how it looks effortlessly beautiful without trying to be “Instagram perfect.” I also love the simplicity of French design with its elegance and beauty. (Toile and chinoiserie, you ask? Why, yes please.) And I really, really, really love the creativity found in small apartments, where people turn their layouts and design limitations into rooms packed with real character and charm.

I guess you could say I’ve left the trend cycles behind and have fully embraced the “collected” look of interior design with its focus on layers, colour, fabric, texture and lived experiences. Mostly, I just love having the things I love all around me—even if they aren’t on trend or from the “right” places.

I also love cats and my house never truly feels like a home without one…
